Year 2 and the Great Fire of London

Year 2 pupils have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We learnt all the key facts in history - how and where the fire started, why it spread so quickly, and how it was finally put out. We then visited the Museum of London and acted out a play, to help us imagine what it would have been like to be in London while the fire burnt. We were allowed to handle artefacts from the time of the Great Fire - leather fire helmets and water buckets (very heavy), wax candles (smelly!) and a 400 year old fire extinguisher! In the museum galleries we watched a video recreation of the Great Fire, and saw paintings of the fire done at the time. Our visit really helped us understand how terrifying the fire must have been for Londoners.
