Year 6 meet the ancient Greeks

In autumn term Year 6 pupils studied ancient Greece. We learnt about their clothes, food, houses, gods and goddesses and way of life, even their wars. We discovered that we have many things to thank the Greeks for, including democracy, universities, philosophy and the Olympic games. On our trip to the British Museum we used a range of resources to find out what it meant to be an Athenian citizen in the 5th century BC, then gathered as the Athenian Assembly to make decisions about how Athens was governed. We used tablets to explore the Museum galleries and learned about ancient Greek religion and how the Parthenon's architecture celebrated Athena's greatness and communicated the power of Athens. It was a great opportunity to put our learning into practice!
